I had a conversation with one of my clients, 17 year old, Art Balyan. He took me up on a suggestion I made to him to read "The Power of Now,"
by Eckhart Tolle. This book was given to me for a birthday several years ago. I dare say it's a very important read that has helped to improve the way many people go about their lives. Eckhart is a masterful writer and teacher. He clearly points out that we are indeed present only now in this moment. The moment that you are reading this line here. The past has moved on, the future is not yet happened.
Eckhart further explains how presence creates a POWER WITHIN, and he teaches how to let go of what is unnecessary and stifling. I work with actors, and other creative people whom sometime finds it difficult to remember staying focused, in the now. Clearly this is not a quality specific to creative people only. However the conversation with Art today was a reminder that I am so grateful when I am reminded to remain focused on what is really important, the now. Working with people who experience life in so many different ways makes my experience very exciting, knowing what is going on all the time. The flip side for me is to remember to let the static in the air be what it is. I love it when my team members are clear with their INTENTIONS, on the same page, and we are working toward the same goals.
In our business of making movies and being in TV it's easy to believe acting and entertaining is about being FAMOUS. Nothing wrong with FAME, but the nature of it is a by-product of marketing and selling. Making movies, being in TV is about service to one's craft, entertainment, and bringing joy to the masses through our stories and shared life experiences. And sure, it can be about fame for many. Yet my cautionary tale is that fame for fame's sake is fleeting. Service to your fellowman is life altering.
